A Simple Frozen Treat That Will Blow Your Mind

Hi there!
Half of Gabby
has moved to a new kickass website!

Read this article, in it’s updated version, HERE.

I've made a recent discovery that has blown my mind. Okay, that's a lie... my daughters made a discovery that they then told grandma about and they THEN told me about. I just tried to take credit for something I had nothing to do with. But whatevs, I came clean.

But it's not important that I just totally tried to steal my children's thunder and call their discovery my own. What's really important here is that I share a yummy, simple, and healthy treat with you. Right?

Are you ready for the world's most uncomplicated and delicious treat?

If you haven't tried this simple frozen treat, you must! Like right now! Okay, well yeah, I guess you'll need to wait until they freeze. But seriously, this has to happen in your life.

Frozen banana slices taste like banana ice cream!

Now I'm not talkin' about regular, yellow bananas. I'm talkin' the overly ripe bananas that are basically inedible and completely covered with brown and black spots. You know, the ones you throw away.

Not only are brown bananas wonderful in healthy baked recipes but when frozen, they're fabulous in healthy smoothies. And now you know that all by themselves, they're a delicious treat!

My kiddos have been scarfing these down all summer long. I have two boxes of popsicles in the freezer that have been completely untouched. My daughters bypass them and go straight for the frozen bananas! I cannot keep enough in the house!

I have found the best way to keep my banana slices fresh is to put them in quart-sized freezer bags. I put one banana per bag so when it comes to recipes and smoothies, I know exact amounts.

Then I put those individual bags into one gallon-sized freezer bag. This keeps them super fresh and safe from freezer burn.

Okay, I've been slicing overly ripe bananas for years now. They're always in my freezer. Always. I use them for smoothies all the time. But I've never even thought to pop one in my mouth and taste it. Isn't that weird?

I mean, maybe the rest of you already know about the magic that happens in the freezer when you freeze sliced bananas. Why have I never known about this?

I'm guessing the reason I never thought to taste the frozen banana slices is that I dislike overly ripened bananas at room temperature. They're just way too sweet and mushy for me. I guess in the back of my mind I figured I wouldn't like them in their frozen state as well. OMG was I wrong! OMG, YOU NEED TO TRY THEM!

Maybe I'm the last person on earth to find this out. But if you haven't tried them yet, TRY THEM! I'm telling you, something happens in that freezer... and it's friggin' glorious!

Did I mention that...

They taste like banana ice cream!

I don't know how something as simple as ripe banana slices can transform into tiny bites of heaven, but omg they really do.

It's the perfect treat on a hot, summer day!

Yesterday, my youngest and I spent the afternoon with grandma walking around the lake.

It was a gorgeous summer day and it was wonderful to spend some time in the trees. The forest always soothes my soul.

Nature does wonders for the Littles too. It gets them to unplug and experience the world up close and personal, rather than through a screen.

My Little Mouse and I decided to stop on the trail and see how long it'd be before grandma noticed we weren't right behind her.

She kept talking and talking and finally turned around and said, "Uh, what are you guys doing?"

When we got back to grandma's house, we were sweaty and in dire need of a cool treat. Frozen bananas hit the spot!

Thankfully grandma always has frozen banana slices in her freezer too :)
